★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 17 éves korától a Csepel színeiben sportoló Kolonics György kenus két olimpiai aranyérmet, 15 világbajnoki és 3 Európa bajnoki címet szerzett.
2008-ban röviddel a pekingi olimpia előtt a soroksári Dunában edzés közben eszméletét vesztette és elhunyt. Emlékét Sárossy Tamás szobrászművész alkotta bronzból készült egész alakos szobor őrzi a tragikus helyszín közelében. Parti sétány a kiváló sportoló előtt tisztelegve viseli nevét.
György Kolonics, a canoe athlete in the colors of Csepel, won two Olympic gold medals, 15 world championships and 3 European championship titles.
In 2008, shortly before the Beijing Olympics, he lost consciousness during a training session on the Danube in Soroksár and died. His memory is preserved by a whole bronze statue made by the sculptor Tamás Sárossy near the tragic site. The promenade bears its name in homage to the outstanding athlete.
