Abandoned Sand Mine

It is an abandoned gravel quarry on the hilltop next to the Szöllőske Forest Nature Reserve. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, all levels of the opencast mining area were still visible. At the time, the abandoned mine was an extremely imposing sight, but it is still beautiful today as nature recaptures the area. Wildflowers, shrubs, and low pine trees settled on the gravelly soil. Today, the top level and its sand dune have remained open, from here, especially in summer and autumn, there is a beautiful view of the King's Meadow to the west, which is approx. It is a 30-minute walk away. From the road leading there, you can also visit the nearby Cakó-roof Hive Stones. Although the levels are almost overgrown with vegetation, they actually lead to paths between the levels. You can descend to the lower levels on the left side of the large sand dune.
