The baroque castle was built around 1760 by Count Mercy, then in 1773 it was added to the Apponyians. In the interior decorative elements of the building with a closed rectangular floor plan, we can discover Masonic motifs: protractor, rectangle, sword. György Antal Apponyi was a member of the Masonic lodge in Vienna. Ferenc Liszt also visited the castle. The castle was built in III. Mercy sold it to György Apponyi in 1772 with royal permission, who was elected chief lord of Tolna county in 1776. The estate is inherited by his son, Antal, and has been significantly transformed since 1784. Antal Apponyi was considered one of the most cultivated landlords of the age. He became friends with Haydn (who also contributed financially to the appearance of the oratorios Creation and the Seasons), Mozart, became acquainted with Beethoven and turned to him - although he only spent one night in the castle - Ferenc Liszt. Later, his brother, Károly Apponyi, became the lord of the castle, who rarely stayed in the castle. His son Géza, on the other hand, spent a significant part of his life in the castle with his wife, Count Paéchenyi. The building was restored in 1890 by Miklós Ybl and, at his death in 1928, buried in the mausoleum of the castle, where he still rests on his wife's side. The last Apponyi, II. In 1939, Károly Apponyi sold the castle to the National Social Security Directorate. After the sale, the destruction began, areas of different sizes were torn out of the park, first a resort and then an archive. During World War II, it became an accommodation for Polish refugees. It was later a military hospital and, until 1954, a home for Greek children. From 1954 he was a foster home, a school, and then a children's home again. Due to the many changes in function, the original internal spatial structure has been transformed beyond recognition. An alien style building was built in the middle of the park, where the workshops belonging to the orphanage were developed (which later became the Elysium). The old valuable plant stock has shrunk or grown back and forth as a result of homelessness.

Destroyed, neglected, weedy .... my heart is broken for this once magnificent building, parker ... whoever has seen it with a beach still working is struck by its condition ..

It is also a shame for Hungary to be sold to a foreigner, a "sheikh" who also sold the remaining equipment. It can't be visited, it's mine.

It was nicely renovated and operated as a hotel. The park is a place for pleasant walks, a pool with self-drilling thermal water, a beautiful jewel box, which was the venue for weddings, events and corporate parties. I am very sorry that it has been closed for almost 9 years and that the place has not been visited ever since.

The APONYI CASTLE is wonderful. The structure of the epithet is impressive.

Fenced area along the road. The gate was closed, no one came out to ring. The park seems well maintained.

It was beautifully renovated, it was a hotel until 2008 then it was closed and now it is. There are many attractions the pools, saunas .... and the park.
