Az 1920-as szégyenteljes Trianoni békepaktum után az alföldi tanyavilágból néhány teherautóval elindultak a fronton kipróbált hazafiak, hogy megakadályozzák Nyugat - Magyarország elcsatolását. Ők voltak az úgynevezett rongyos sereg. Kiegészülve a környékbeli főiskolásokkal megütköztek a bevonuló osztrákokkal. Ennek a hősies ellenállásnak köszönhetően írták ki azt a népszavazást amelynek következtében Sopron az ország része maradt s lett a hűség városa.
A lesser-known monument in the Rifles. After the disgraceful Trianon Peace Pact of 1920, a few lorries from the ranch of the Great Plains set off on the front to prevent the annexation of West Hungary. They were the so-called ragged army. Accompanied by colleges in the area, they encountered invading Austrians. Thanks to this heroic resistance, a referendum was announced which left Sopron part of the country and became a city of loyalty.
