A katolikus templomban tartott istentisztelet után a település főterén Gschwindt Ernő országgyűlési képviselő megnyitotta az ünnepséget. A szobrot József főherceg leplezte le, aki beszédében - a háború idején az ő parancsnoksága alatt álló - 32-es és 1-es honvéd gyalogezred katonáinak hősiességét méltatta, majd elhelyezte babérkoszorúját az emlékműnél.
