Legendás tanárok, legendás diákjai, és sok-sok helyes útra nevelt polgári tanítvány és élet. Ezeknek a tanároknak köszönhetően a XX század elején a világ egyik legjobb iskolájának számított.
A gimnázium 1823-ban kezdte meg a működését, akkor még a Deák téren. Mostani helyére 1904-ben költözött.
1952-től 1989-ig bezáratta a kommunista hatalom, majd 1989-ben Gyapay Gábor történész szervezte újjá a híres intézményt.

The grammar school started its operation in 1823, then in Deák Square. He moved to his current location in 1904.
From 1952 to 1989 it was closed down by the communist power, then in 1989 the historian Gábor Gyapay reorganized the famous institution.
