A 75 mázsás, 5,7 méter magas, négy oldalas vasgúlát az ungvári turjamentei öntödében öntötték. Povolny Ferenc (debreceni építőmester, ő tervezte pl. a hortobágyi kilenclyukú kőhidat) végezte az alapozást. A gúla nyugati oldalán a „CSOKONAI VITÉZ MIHÁLY, SZÜLETETT 1773. DEBRECZENBEN. MEG-HÓLT 1805. HAZAFIAI EMELTÉK 1836.” feliratot, a keletin egy Csokonai idézetet olvashatunk: „- a Múzsáknak szózatja A Sírt is megrázkódtatja s életet fuval bele” Az északi oldalon A költő munkái felirat alatt Csokonai könyveit bemutató feliratos táblák vannak, míg a déli oldalon olajágat tartó géniusz áll a keresztbe tett furulyák és egy lant felett.
