A korábbi tornatermi épületet Lux Kálmán tervei alapján építettek át templommá és 1934-ben szentelték fel. 1961-ben az állami tulajdonba kerülést követően a templomot raktárként használták. A rendszerváltást követően újra egyházi tulajdonná vált. A templomot, feltételezhetően annak rossz tartószerkezeti állaga miatt 2010 után bontották el. A toronyra a műemléki jellege miatt nem kaptak bontási engedélyt annak ellenére, hogy bauxit betonból épült és anyaga kritikus állapotban van. Amennyiben néhány éven belül nem esik át egy komoly rekonstrukción, úgy hamarosan statikai állékonysági problémákkal kell majd szembenézni és a mindenképpen a bontás lesz a vége.
