A Sió torkolatától délre mintegy 30 km hosszúságban és 5-10 km szélességben húzódik. Természetvédelmi szempontból a Duna–Dráva Nemzeti Park területének része. Területéből mintegy 180 négyzetkilométert rendszeresen árvíz önt el, amivel nemcsak hazánkban, de egész Európában is egyedülálló. The Gemenc or Gemenc forest is a nature protection floodplain forest on the western edge of the Great Plain, along the Danube, in Sárköz. It is about 30 km long and 5-10 km wide south of the mouth of the Sió. From a nature conservation point of view, it is part of the Danube-Drava National Park. About 180 square kilometers of its territory are regularly flooded, which makes it unique not only in Hungary but also in the whole of Europe.
