The Gutenberg Square is roughly in line with the Rákóczi Square on the Palotanegyet of József Boulevard. The formation of a small square in the center of Józsefváros at the junction of several streets (Mary, Sándor Bródy, Kőfaragó, Béla Somogyi, Sándor Scheiber, Kölcsey, Békési, Rokk Szilárd) dates back to the middle of the 19th century. In 1884 he was named after the General Public Works Council of Alexander the Great Archduke (Austrian Archduke, Emperor Joseph II; from 1790 to 1795, the mayor of Hungary until his death), since the streets of today, Bródy Sándor Street, have the same name. he was wearing that time. Prior to this, the streets surrounding the square were already drawn on the cadastral map of Pest in 1872, and then on the later map, which was marked by the changes until 1920, the name of Sándor Nagyherceg is also mentioned. There were many debates around the name of space in the first half of the 20th century. After the Gutenberg home was built in 1907, the Book Publishers and Assassin Relief Society repeatedly called on the Metropolitan Public Works Council to change the name of the space, but the name Gutenberg Square was rejected. The Józsefváros Medical Company also suggested changing the name of the square to József Fodor Square, but their submission was also rejected. His name changed to Sándor Square in 1919, then from 1929 he became the Archbishop of Sándor, from 1930 he became Sándor Square, and from 1946 he bears the name Gutenberg as a result of the serious struggle of the printers.
