If you walk around Ajka, don't miss this nearby settlement Magyarpolány. The Calvary in the village is a soul-warming place with a great station and wonderful views from the hilltop. If you are looking for a little spiritual refreshment be sure to visit this place.

When we got out of the car at the church “under” Calvary in Magyarpolány, the old kung-fu movies came to mind. Those where the steep stairs leading to the “dirty” steep sky end somewhere in the clouds at a monastery. Where the warrior runs up with two full buckets without panting. Like no one who sees or hears, I snuggled up like a kung-fu panda! After “climbing” a few dozen stairs, I fell like a rag doll onto a bench suitable for the first seat. After 153 stairs and several “red misty” pantings, I reached the small square in front of the chapel. A deli cross and a chapel in one place became one of my rewards. It is true that Calvary, according to some sources, has existed since 1780, but construction of the small chapel did not begin until 1908. (Its construction was completed in just 2 years!) Why did you have to build on this particular slope? Because the oldest church in the village once stood here. The interior of the new Gothic snow-white chapel is 6x12 meters. I walked around, took photos, took my breath away. When I got back to the top of the stairs and looked down, the village was “below” me. From churchyard, cemetery… 5 resting, 5 stations next to the staircase. (Interestingly, I didn’t even notice them on the big “hill.”) Each of the 5 tiny nicely-roofed houses hides a painted wooden statue. Great gothic creations. (Works by the Swabian Listner brothers ?!) This is how the crucifixion, the crucifixion, the “crowning of thorns,” the whipping, and Jesus on the Mount of Olives followed one another. The other way around, the other way around! But I saw them from above and not in the usual way for the first time. By the time I got down to the bottom of the stairs, my knees and thigh muscles were protesting quite. Below I looked at Pieta, the “American” cross. (This was made in 1901 by master carver Máté Polatsek from a donation of 107 American Hungarians.)

Due to the Calvary in particular, I may not travel here, but if you are walking in the area, it is worth seeing, it is beautiful and tidy, and the view is also captivating ... get ready: the thigh muscle will be processed.
