A mostani torony 1770-ben épült. 1761. július 12-én szentelte fel gróf Eszterházi Károly váci püspök Sarlós Boldogasszony tiszteletére. 1803-ban késő barokk stílusban átépítették és rézborítással látták el a korábban zsindelyezett toronysisakot. A toronyórát Rancz Lajos órásmester tervezte, különlegessége a hazánkban ritka, színes számlap. Az Ótemplom belső berendezési közül nevezetes az imarács, amely Móra Ferenc első közszereplésének emlékét őrzi. 1888-ban a kisiskolás Móra a karácsonyi ünnepségen itt szavalta el Fehér Antal tanító „A karácsonyfához” című versét. Ehhez a márványkorláthoz, - amelyre felállították - fagyott oda rongyos talpú csizmájába bújtatott lába a kis szavalónak. The construction of the monumental church of Kiskunfélegyháza began in 1744, its walls by 1752 and its tower in 1753, but it collapsed and a new one had to be built. A tér közepén szökőkút, benne gyerekek ugrálnak. Apáca sietett el előttünk, ismét a régi házban laknak. A templomkert gyönyörű, mint mindig. Anyu meséli sokat, milyen volt ott átvágni, mikor a gimnáziumba siettek... és már akkor is szép volt. A templom belseje most is csendes, áhítatot áraszt, jó belépni.
