Unfortunately, this beautiful old building (of which there are very few in the city) is currently unavailable for visit (medical history exhibition). The building needs renovation, it is sad that it is in this condition! The memories of the Korányi family are on display at Tanoda Street.

The birthplace of Frigyes Korányi is a comb-built residential house of classicist origin, which may have been built in the late 1700s. It has been operating as a memorial house since 1971. The house has an exhibition of medical history. The memories of the great doctor are kept in the room where he was born, here we can see his family and personal belongings in glass showcases. The memorial plaque, which can still be seen today, was placed in the birthplace of Dr. Frigyes Korányi more than a year after his death. Baron Frigyes Korányi, doctor, internal medicine, professor, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, one of the founders of Hungarian medicine, the father of the fight against tuberculosis, was born on December 20, 1828 in Nagykálló. He was still involved in the war of independence as a medical student as a medical doctor and then as a chief military officer. In 1851–52 he was an operating room student in Vienna, but due to his participation in the war of independence he was exiled from here and from Pest to Nagykálló, where he became a doctor from 1852 and the chief physician of Szabolcs County from 1861. In 1864 he taught neurology at the University of Pest as a private teacher. He was appointed professor of internal medicine in 1866, and after he organized the 1st internal clinic until 1908, when he retired, he was its director and teacher. source: Nagykálló / vault
