A XIX. század második feléből ránk maradt leírás szerint Hajdúszoboszló „gazdag fekete róna határa, szőlőskertje van”. A viszonylagos jólét vonzotta is a kor „bestéit”, a betyárokat. Azonban, ahogy a Vasárnapi Újság 1868-ban megírta: „Szoboszló nem jó hely a gazembereknek”. A kisváros békéjét már ekkor 50-60 perzekutor és 5-6 csendbiztos őrizte. Az ekkoriban épülgető városháza fontos része volt a börtön.
Grandiose but slightly weathered building!
In the XIX. According to the description left to us from the second half of the 19th century, Hajdúszoboszló has "a rich black roman border and a vineyard". Relative prosperity also attracted the “besties” of the age, the outlaws. However, as the Sunday Newspaper wrote in 1868, "Szoboszló is not a good place for villains." The peace of the small town was already guarded by 50-60 persecutors and 5-6 silence commissioners. The prison was an important part of the town hall being built at that time.
