Nekem különösen is többet jelent,mivel 1988-ban "testközelből" volt szerencsém látni a repülésüket a toronyból! Who cares about flight (airplanes) should see it several times !!!! It means more to me, because in 1988 I was lucky to see their flight from the tower!

Harcászati Repülőezred felszámolása idején merült fel először, de források hiányában nem valósulhatott meg egy méltó emlékhely kialakítása. 2016-ban Pápa Város Önkormányzata egy határozatban jelentős hozzájárulást vállalt, így elkezdődhetett a megvalósítás. Az MH Pápa Bázisrepülőtér szolgálati úton a honvédelmi miniszterhez fordult, aki engedélyezte és biztosította az 4605-ös oldalszámú MiG-21-es vadászrepülőgép felhasználását és feladatot szabott a Magyar Honvédség egyes szervezeteinek a repülőgép előkészítésére, festésére és szállítására. Az önkormányzat vállalta a tartószerkezet műszaki terveztetésének és engedélyezésének költségeit, valamint az ehhez kapcsolódó feladatok koordinálását. A repülőgép előkészítése megtörtént, a szükséges műszaki átalakításokat és a festést Kecskeméten az MH Légijárműjavító Üzem szakemberei elvégezték; az MH Katonai Közlekedési Központ átszállította Pápára. A katonák és kivitelező cég munkatársai 2018. december 9-én helyezték végleges helyére a vadászgépet. A MiG-21-es volt hazánk meghatározó, 1962 és 2000 között rendszeresített vadászgépe, így méltóképpen reprezentálja a katonai repülést. A 4605-ös oldalszámú MiG-21 MF 1971-től 1977-ig repült Pápán, majd 1990-ig Kecskeméten. Utolsó repülését 1990. április 4-én teljesítette szolnoki leszállással, ezután Szolnokon, a Repülő Műszaki Főiskolán oktatási segédletként szolgálta a hallgatók képzését. Évtizedeken átívelő szolgálata alatt összesen 1764 órát és 51 percet repült, 2999 leszállással. The idea of the monument was first discovered at the time of the liquidation of the 47th Tactical Air Squadron, but in the absence of resources, a worthy memorial site could not be created. The MiG-21 was the dominant fighter in Hungary between 1962 and 2000, representing the military flight. MiG-21 MF, number 4605, flew from 1971 to 1977 in Pápa and then to Kecskemét in 1990. He completed his last flight on April 4, 1990 with a landing in Szolnok, then served as a training aid for students at Szolnok, the Technical College of Aircraft.
