Budapesten sokáig nem mertek hozzányúlni a kerületek a lakosság parkolási kedvezményeihez, elterjedt a 100 százalékos kedvezmény, azaz az ingyenes parkolás (az éves megújítás 1000-2000 forintos adminisztrációs költségét leszámítva). A környező országok fővárosaiban ez már jó ideje nem így van. Prága frekventált részein például olyan residential övezeteket alakítottak ki (Blue zone), ahol csak az ott lakók parkolhatnak, a nem ott lakóknak csak egy-két fizetős hely van. Persze nincs ingyen: az első autó után 1200 korona (16 500 Ft) az éves díj, a második után viszont 7000 (96 000 Ft). Ljubljanában az 1. és 2. zónában 100 euró (36 000 Ft) az első autó, 200 euró (72 000 Ft) a második, a 3. zónában pedig 60 és 120 euró.
