A Rákóczi-szabadságharc után a Habsburgok érdekeinek megfelelően szervezték újjá a postaszolgálatot. Miskolcot eleinte elkerülték a postavonalak, a leveleket az ónodi postáról szállították hetente kétszer. Miskolcon először csak 1790-ben nyílt postaállomás, ez a Kassa és Eger közti postakocsi állomása volt. 1791-től már postautak kötötték össze Sátoraljaújhelyt Budával, Tállyát Máramarosszigettel, Tokajt pedig minden jelentős településsel.

After the Rákóczi War of Independence, the postal service was reorganized in the interests of the Habsburgs. Initially, Miskolc was bypassed by mail lines, mail was delivered twice a week from the Ónod post office. The first post office was opened in Miskolc only in 1790, it was the post office between Kosice and Eger. From 1791 post offices connected Sátoraljaújhely with Buda, Tállya with Maramureş, and Tokaj with all major settlements.
