Szombathelyi Markusovszky Kórház - Szombathely

This is a shockingly vile place. The nurses and care staff who work there wind the call alarms around the lights, high above the beds so that patients cannot reach them to call for help. During the last weekend of June 2016, I witnessed the care staff watching football (Euro 2016 Hungary v Belgium) and ignoring the patients for hours. I also witnessed the same care staff hiding in an office with the light off, smoking cigarettes. I wanted to help this poor patient as he was tied to the bed with a nappy on, even though he could actually walk to the loo. My father died in this hospital in August 2016. He told us that he was physically abused and I witnessed him being yanked about in agony and it has broken my heart. The consultant care seemed good, but the personal care, a complete disaster. We'll never know if, had he been brought back to Britain as soon as he required medical help, he'd still be alive today. This place reminds me so very much of the Romanian Orphanages that Anneka Rice went on a crusade to improve. I wish that I could go on a similar crusade in Hungarian Hospitals. First World equipment with Second & Third World care.
