About Tasting Table Cellar (by Taste Hungary)
We opened The Tasting Table opened in late 2014, after much dusty renovations and planning. We had long dreamed about having their own space in the heart of Budapest, where they could offer memorable wine tasting experiences, delicious hand-picked wines, an extensive selection of old and rare Tokaji aszús, and opportunities for guests to learn about Hungarian wine culture. So on a winter day when we happened to find a small cellar space—which was in horrible condition (and had no plumbing)—we had a crazy visualization of transforming this cellar into a cozy wine tasting space so we could expand Taste Hungary’s wine tasting options.
Located in the cozy vaulted cellar of a 19th-century palace, The Tasting Table is a hybrid wine shop / tasting room / event space / education center / online shop. We focus on Central European grape varietals and specialties and have 200+ unique wines, many of which are not widely available elsewhere. We buy our wine mainly straight from the winemakers, from good people who make good wine, who we know and trust. Every wine we offer has a reason to be here—whether it is simply an outstanding wine, comes from a special terroir, or tells an important story about Hungarian winemaking. Our goal is to introduce these special wines, and our wine is always paired with lots of insight into Hungarian winemaking.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Taste Hungary is FANTASTIC! If it were possible to give them more than five stars, I would. In the interest of making this review as useful to you as possible, I'll admit, (i) I could definitely be classified as an avid "foodie"; (ii) I avoid "touristy" tours at all nearly costs; and (iii) I rarely feel strongly enough about anything to bother writing a review. However, Gabor and Carolyn of Taste Hungary are super knowledgeable gourmets with impeccable taste, and it's not an exaggeration to say you would be utterly remiss to plan a trip to Budapest or Hungary that didn't include their expertise.
Gabor put together an absolutely epic wine tasting for us at their charming tasting room in Budapest's Palace District, and Carolyn's accompanying charcuterie board was phenomenal. On top of that, Gabor is exceptionally charismatic and personable. It truly felt like spending the evening with a long-time friend who just happens to be a sommelier with a passion for Hungarian wine! Our experience with Taste Hungary could not have been more perfect, and the next time we visit, we're planning to spend far more time with Gabor and Carolyn.
*Note, if you happen to be familiar with the legendary Zingerman's food/restaurant empire in Ann Arbor, Michigan, it should carry additional weight to know that Taste Hungary is the only Hungarian tour company the Zingerman's group uses for their carefully-curated, high-end international food tours — with very good reason.
In short, book anything and everything with Taste Hungary. I promise you will not be disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The TLDR is that Taste Hungary is amazing and I highly recommend them.
My wife and I did a wine tasting with Gabor of Taste Hungary at their wine bar and it was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Hungary. He included an epic selection of Hungarian wines and a fantastic charcuterie board with excellent local meats and cheeses. Gabor was great to do a tasting with. He was very knowledge, personable, and just plain fun to hang out with. It felt more like drinking wine with an old friend. Additionally, the Taste Hungary space was really charming and a fantastic place for a tasting.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience at a great value. I highly recommend booking something with Taste Hungary if you are in Budapest. Gabor and Taste Hungry will be my first call on our next trip to Hungary.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was with a group of people, and we met other people from other countries who also attended the wine tasting. It was so interesting and fun. Then we all went out together afterwards. The person conducting the wine tasting was very knowledgeable about wine, and learning the differences and challenges that Hungarian wineries face was eye opening. Definitely recommend even if you're not a big wine drinker (I'm not and I loved it!).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ These guys provided so much information on local wines for the tasting menu! Good selection for purchase too. The cheese plate and roasted pumpkin seed oil serviced with the bread were delicious. Very reasonable prices for tasting, by the glass, and bottle purchases to go.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Honest review - Good atmosphere, lovely location. Wife really enjoyed it. They didn't rush through so we could take our time. The only thing was they were very tight with the wine... isn't a cheap experience, it's the same price as London. You could buy all 5 bottles of wine for just £45 so they definitely could have let people have a bit more and still make a profit. We did ask and he said as its our anniversary we could stay at the end and finish off one of the open bottles. We thought it was very generous until we finished our (small glass) and were stung with another bill...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I can’t speak highly enough about our experiences with Taste Hungary! We initially discovered them during our first trip to Budapest in 2018 when we did their Culinary Walk. It was amazing so we knew on this trip we had to incorporate at least one tour of theirs into our visit.
We started off doing an evening Ruin Bar Walk with Dániel, which was so much fun! Visiting different ruin bars and trying local drinks, all while learning more about Budapest and it’s history was fascinating - especially because there were some hidden gems we would have never seen otherwise. Dániel was a fantastic guide and even guided us to an awesome lángos place after when we asked for a recommendation.
We also did the Buda Food Walk with György, since we were staying on that side of the Danube this trip. We really enjoyed seeing more of Buda beyond Castle Hill and of course, eating lots of traditional Hungarian food! We stopped at a historic cafe, a local market, an authentic restaurant, and a corner bar - by the end of the tour we were full of delicious food. György was a wonderful guide and shared so much about the city and it’s history during our walk, and gave us a great recommendation for a good palinka to take home with us.
Definitely book any tour with Taste Hungary that you can! We for sure will do so again when we next visit Budapest.
