The Hajdúság Pharmaceutical Factory penicillin production and military plant was built in 1952, on about 6 hectares, hiding the already nature conservation area in Nagyforce. Penicillin production was originally planned in Bakony, but the plan for the industrialization of the Great Plain overwrote this. Thus, the water-demanding factory was moved away from rivers and the prevailing winds often swept the “characteristic odors” towards the big city. His relocation arose later, but it would have been very costly. The first grade of the predecessor of today's Chemical Industry Grammar School, the Debrecen Chemical Industry Technical School, graduated in 1954, and in the following decades the backbone of the factory's team of specialists came from this school as well. The Hajdúság Pharmaceutical Factory was merged with Rex's Debrecen Pharmaceutical Factory in 1960, when it became Biogal. It became the property of the Teva Group in 1995, and its production capacity - and thus its area - has grown significantly. The Snake Slayer statue (by Pál Pátzay) was originally planned to commemorate the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg in St. Stephen's Park in Budapest. However, in the hours leading up to the inauguration ceremony scheduled for April 9, 1949, the monument acted as its inspiration, the young Swede - disappeared. The statue was erected in 1953 in an essentially secluded place, in front of the Debrecen pharmaceutical factory, as a decorative statue as a symbol of the fight against disease. The monument has become transcendental, becoming the emblem of the pharmaceutical factory. At the initiative of the Wallenberg Sculpture Committee, founded in 1998, a copy of the sculpture was erected in St. Stephen's Park in 1999, with the support of TEVA, among others.
