A lila-fehérben szereplő csapat 20-szoros magyar bajnok, 21-szeres magyar bajnoki második helyezett, 18-szoros magyar bajnoki harmadik helyezett, 9-szeres magyar kupagyőztes, 6-szoros kupadöntős, 3-szoros magyar Szuperkupa-győztes, Nemzetek Tornája-győztes, 2-szeres KK-győztes. Magyarország harmadik legsikeresebb labdarúgócsapata, csak a Ferencvárosi TC, és az MTK előzi meg bajnoki címek, illetve kupagyőzelmek számában. Újpesten az alapítást követő 14 évben csak szertornára, atlétikára szakosodtak. A labdarúgó szakosztály 1899-ben kezdte meg működését.
Az Újpest történetének 2723. első osztályú mérkőzését játszotta 2008. augusztus 30-án, amivel az élvonalbeli mérkőzések számát tekintve az örök-ranglista első helyére lépett, megelőzve ezzel az ősi rivális Ferencvárost.

In the 14 years after its foundation in Újpest, they specialize only in gymnastics and athletics. The football department began its operations in 1899.
