The church was built on the foundations of the former Carthusian monastery by Bíró Márton Padányi between 1747-50 in Baroque style.
The Baroque main altar with the central figure of St. Michael and the holy kings of the House of Árpád was carved by Ferenc Schmidt around 1750.
