We visited the museum several times and always captivates the mood that prevails among the ancient walls. The castle and its surroundings were very nicely restored under the leadership of Sándor Molnár, which was started by his father Mátyás Molnár in the early 60's. Great events make the museum cozy and populated. We encourage everyone to visit at least one time of the year and we guarantee you will return to this beautiful Vay Adam Museum at other times.

Nice location, furniture, paintings and tools evoking the past!

In 2020, I visited Vaján during the completion of the Great Plain Blue Tour. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into the building because there was an event going on in it, but I walked into the garden. The exact time of the construction of Vay Castle is unknown, according to family traditions it was built by Abraham Vay in 1418, but the first written record of the building dates from 1554. According to historians, the Vay family dates back to the 16th century. at the end of the 17th century, but not later than the 17th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, for the first time, a tower-free, rectangular, basement, two-storey, brick-walled mansion was built in the Renaissance style, which was completed in 1650. In 1659, at the northwest corner of the building, a three-story tower was built to order by Peter Vay. The XVIII. In the 16th century, a basement three-storey tower was built on the southeast corner of the castle. In the XIX. As a result of the romantic, Gothic-style constructions carried out in the second half of the 19th century (from 1850), the Renaissance character of the façade opening system ceased to exist and fundamental changes were also made to the interior. Around the turn of the century, the facades of the castle were re-plastered. The fresco in the Great Hall on the second floor was also made at that time. A XX. Thanks to modernizations in the 1920s, plumbing was introduced. Between 1960 and 1962, the castle was restored, and then during the restoration and restoration works between 1996 and 2004, the castle was restored to its original location in the 17th century. It was restored in a 19th-century Renaissance image. II. Ferenc Rákóczi visited the building twice. First in 1703, in order for the family to support the cause of the War of Independence, this time he won the Vay brothers, László, Mihály, and Ádám, for the cause of the uprising. Second, in 1711, Count János Pálffy negotiated with the Croatian Ban, Commander of the Habsburg Armed Forces, on the possible laying down of arms. The castle currently houses the Ádám Vay Museum, which, in addition to the history of the Vay family, presents the events of the Rákóczi War of Independence.

The castle was renovated very nicely. I visited here several times as a child, as I spent a few weeks here in the summer. He was somehow more impressed then. It is not possible to pay by card and therefore the castle card discount is not available.
