★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A bit sad that they aren't open on the weekends... always very quiet for reading with lots of books.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Indeed beautiful inside but quite small. It has this one spacious room which impresses from the first step.
Nice to sneak in especially in the summer hot days.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sometimes ok. Staff is sometimes engaged in noisy/disruptive talk (they try not to, but their workplace is basically in the reading hall, so it makes not being disruptive super hard), which is annoying and prevents getting focused, but when they don't do it, it is sometimes a nice place to study. There are some annoying things though.
(Suggestions:
1) Replace the noisy machines with silent ones. I think the point of the library is that it lets me study, if there are noisy machines, why is it any better than a coffee shop? (All learning material is online so access to physical books isn't really a plus).
2) Introduce proper temperature control. It is very warm in some rooms, sweating in a shirt.
3) if Windows machines have original software and they are not telling me that this software is not original (ie illegal), it seems more professional.)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful building and kind staff but unacceptable conditions for research. Every door is squeaking as well as the wooden floor and chairs, the plugs are located in the floor instead of the tables etc. please install carpets and useable spaces to study instead of golden arches and beanbags...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This beautiful Library is located in the heart of lovely Budapest, it was founded in 1561 by the bishop of Esztergom (a historical Hungarian city in the North), Miklós Oláh. In the beginning it was used as library by Jesuits. In 1773, only female ruler of Habsburg empire, Maria Theresa dismissed the Jesuits order and turned it to public library. In 1784 it was moved its current location with all books and resources. In 1876 current building was built and since that day its operating as first public library in Hungary. Now since we are done with the history, lets continue with interesting part, the architecture and facts!
The building is designed in eclectic style (mix of different styles) by Antal Skalnitzky. The main reading room which is more than 200 m2 receives natural lighting from glass roof. You can see a guy in the middle, but who is he? He is the Károly Lótz, a Hungarian-German painter who have done the mural work in the main reading room. Female frescos on the ceiling and walls symbolizes arts and sciences.
Currently there are 1.5M units in the Library which includes large number of antiques and rare printings. Among the whole units, most valuable ones are 180 codices, 14 corvinas (I'm not sure about translation, "corvinát" in HU) and 1150 ancient printings. And thousands of other valuable books which I'm not sure about the translations
