Csik Ferenc Swimmer - nice statue

Ferenc Csik took first place in the 100m freestyle at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Keszthely, between Vonyarcvashegy and his swimming training in Balaton, prepared for the Olympics. As a military doctor, he lost his life during his profession during the bombing of Sopron.

Ferenc Csik (Kaposvár, December 12, 1913 - Sopron, March 29, 1945) won the Olympic Championship title in the 100m freestyle at the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics. His father, Ferenc Lengvári, was a notary who died in Serbia in the First World War. Ferenc Csik was adopted by his maternal uncle, László Csík, head physician. Then his name changed from Lengvari to Csik. His mother opened a tobacco shop in Keszthely in 1924. This is how Ferenc Csik moved to the city from where he moved after graduating from the Grammar School of Premontrei (today Keszthely Vajda János Grammar School). She really enjoyed swimming here too: she and her brother often swam in Lake Balaton. He began his medical studies at Pázmány Péter University in Budapest in 1931, graduating as a doctor in 1937. He then worked at the university's clinic and at MÁV Patient Insurance. Two children were born from their marriage, Ferenc and Katalin. In 1943 he taught anatomy at the College of Physical Education and became a publisher of Medical Announcements. In October 1944 he received a military call. He served as a reserve medical sergeant in Szolnok, Keszthely and Sopron. While performing his medical profession, he was killed in a bomb attack in Sopron. After his death, the air raid victims were buried in a common grave in Sopron. He was exhumed in 1947 and placed in eternal rest in the ornamental tomb offered by Keszthely.
