Egy földvár szomorú sírkövei A következő megállónk Kéthely volt. Itt a Fancsi várat (én Fancsikának neveztem el) kerestük fel. A segesdi fiaskóból tanulva előre féltem! Ezt, hogyan és mennyi idő alatt találjuk meg? A Nap „megyen már” lefelé, így bele kell húznunk. A főtéren Kontha Gabi berobogott a kocsmába pecsételni. Én fotózgattam. Csodás Kéthely barokk temploma, szépek az emlékművek. Közben egy térképre lettem figyelmes, amire pontosan bejelölték a vár helyét. ( Hej, Ötvöskónyi és Segesd derék „urai”, nem lehetne ilyen nálatok is?! Ha már az isten várromot adott!) A víztorony „tövénél” aztán megtaláltuk a vár maradványait. Ez egy palánkvár volt, melyet a kor egyik „sztármérnöke”, Giulio Turco tervezett. A 40x40 méteres belsővárat egy hatalmas árokrendszer vette körül. A vár négy sarkán rondellák ágyúkkal. A falak úgy készültek, hogy két sorban levert cölöpök közé sarat döngöltek. A cölöpöket fűzfavesszővel átfonták. Jobban bírta az ágyúzást, mint a kőfal. Fancsi-vár! Honnan ez a fura név? Az 1274-ben először említett Kedhel (Kéthely) urai sokáig a Gordovai Fancsok voltak. Mikor a török megjelent a megyében az akkori urai, Fancs János és György megépítette a várat. Gonosz leszek! Kár volt! 1566-ban mikor az őrség meghallotta, hogy Szigetvár elesett sebes vágtára fogva elszelelt miután felgyújtotta a frissen épült várat. Tahy Ferenc és Thury György ugyan újra felépítette, de 1588-ban-most már a török miatt- újra leégett és elpusztult. Ma a vár sáncain sírok találhatók. A helyi zsidók sírjai. Köztük van olyan, amiben nincs holttest, egy auschwitzi mártírnak állít emléket.

He could handle the cannon better than the stone wall. Fancsi castle! Where does this weird name come from? The lords of Kedhel (Kéthely), first mentioned in 1274, were the Gordova Fancs for a long time. When the Turks appeared in the county, the then lords, János Fancs and György, built the castle. I will be evil! It was a pity! In 1566, when the guard heard that Szigetvár had flown due to a fallen gallop after it had set fire to the newly built castle. Although it was rebuilt by Ferenc Tahy and György Thury, in 1588 - now because of the Turks - it burned down again and was destroyed. Today there are graves on the ramparts of the castle. Tombs of local Jews. Among them is one in which there is no corpse, commemorating an Auschwitz martyr.
