Each family had control over a three-parted dwelling, with three doors opening on the south side to an atrium, enclosed on the right and left by a room with a rammed furnace with rammed floors. The Ziegler family owned the manor, and his parents, paternal grandmother and two-year-old sister lived here when the future writer was born.
