The largest green area of ​​Keszthely is the XX. Helikon Park, gradually developed from the beginning of the 19th century, in the middle of which stands the columned, domed building erected in 1921, a monument to the Helikon celebrations. Count György Festetics held a literary ceremony in Keszthely, following the German pattern, at his manorial seat.1817. and between 1819, two festivals were held each year, one on February 12, the birthday of King Francis I, and the other on May 21, around the Georgian exams. The old count invited the Transdanubian landowners, writers and scientists to the ceremonies. On the eve of the holiday, there was a color performance in the grammar school, and the city was illuminated. The next day, the program began with Mass, followed by the decoration, where Georgikon teachers and students gave lectures in Hungarian, German and Latin, while reciting and performing Hungarian and German songs. Much of the work was of an occasional nature, most notably the glory of the monarchy, sometimes the merits of the Festetics, and the importance of farming. Within the framework of the ceremonies, a concert, a bright feast, a ball were held, a tree was planted in memory of the former Hungarian writers, and then the count distributed prizes and scholarships to writers. The last Helikon ceremony was held in February 1819, because nearly two months later the count died. In 1957, in connection with the 140th anniversary of the celebrations, three local patriots from Keszthely: the director of the Elemér Merényi Culture House, dr. Károly Sági museum director and dr. Economist András Szabolcs decided to try to relaunch the major cultural event for young people in a special social situation. The first Helicon of the second half of the 20th century may have taken place in May 1958, attended by eleven schools in ten cities. After 1963, the High School Helicon was held only every two years, and then in the 1970s and 80s, the event slowly began to wane. The number of participants gradually decreased, the event became more and more politicized. Renewal and a return to tradition may have begun in the 1990s. The city has set up a foundation to organize the Helicons. The lion’s share of the practical work is still done by the team of the Helicon Organizing Committee recruited from volunteers and the Goldmark Charles Cultural Center, but of course the local students and teachers, the institutions hosting the categories and programs, the sponsors, sponsors, collaborating partners, without the help of the current city administration and NGOs, this large-scale event would not have been possible. The state-of-the-art Helicopters have attracted the interest of more and more high schools and students after careful starts. From 1998 the organizers extended the invitation to the whole of Transdanubia, by 2000 the number of categories increased to 18, in 2004 the event became international with the representatives of the schools of the twin cities, at the 50th anniversary of 2008 the number of participants again exceeded 4000 .
