★ ★ ★ ★ ★ József főherceg 1847. évi halálát követően kezdeményezés indult egy köztéri szobor állítására. Ezt azonban megakadályozta a Habsburg-uralom ellen indult szabadságharc. 1857-ben megrendelték, a szobor 1860-ban érkezett hajóval, a Dunán szállítva Pestre. Akkor a Városháza udvarára került, egy faládában töltött közel egy évtizedet. Végül 1869. április 25-re tűzték ki az avató ünnepség időpontját. Akkor viszont nagy pompával, Ferenc József császár és Erzsébet királynő jelenlétében avatták fel. A mauthauseni gránitból készült talpazat lépcsőkkel együtt 526 cm magas, a nádor a magyar Szent István-rend díszöltönyében látható az Aranygyapjas rend jelvényével.
 After the death of Archduke Joseph in 1847, an initiative was launched to erect a public statue. However, this was prevented by the war of independence against the Habsburg rule. It was ordered in 1857, the statue arrived in 1860 by boat, transported to Pest on the Danube. Then he was in the courtyard of the Town Hall, spending nearly a decade in a wooden box. Finally, the date of the inauguration ceremony was set for April 25, 1869. However, it was inaugurated with great splendor in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph and Queen Elizabeth. The Mauthausen granite pedestal, together with the stairs, is 526 cm high.
