The history of Calvary In 1756, the local ecclesiastical chief designated the site of the three crosses and the chapel on the hilltop. It was erected in 1759, the wooden carpenters and triangular-based station houses with pictures, and a row of linden trees next to the crossroads. Calvary became a place of pilgrimage, so in 1771 the wooden crosses were replaced by limestone-carved crosses. The Rock Chapel of the Holy Sepulcher was built, and in 1773 the great group of Baroque sculptures that can still be seen today was erected. The chapel on the hilltop was completed in 1777.

Starry pilgrimage ... Marianosztra, Calvary: 17 May 2021 The settlement of Márianosztra boasts one of the most spectacular Calvary of the Danube Bend. Calvary Hill, rising on the eastern edge of the village, was built in the 18th century. century has been crowned by a group of baroque sculptures and a small chapel. The formation of the Calvary can be linked to the local Pauline monastic order. The place of the Calvary crosses was consecrated in 1756, and in 1759 the monks Gergely Szluha and Péter Kopacsek set up the 16 stations. Back in that year, the first pilgrim arrived at the crossroads. In 1771, wooden crosses were replaced with carvings made of limestone. The Chapel of the Holy Sepulcher was also built at that time, and in 1777 the Calvary Chapel was built a little above it. It gained its bastion-like appearance in the 20th century. An important element of the chapel with an octagon on the outside and a round floor plan on the inside is a copy of the statue of Piéta in Sasvár. Walking along Calvary Hill, you can see more than 250-year-old lime trees planted by Pauline monks. One of the old trees is called the "Hollow Tree" because its trunk is now held only by its bark. You can also walk up to the hilltop for the panorama. In the foreground of the undulating volcanic forms of Börzsöny we can see the houses of Márianosztra, and standing in front of the chapel we can see the regular cone of the Great Galla, while to the north the bare top of Kopasz Hill closes the horizon.

We accidentally spotted this tiny chapel down the road, so then we tried to find it. In the meantime we also met with a procession, kindly, they gave us a blessing, it was uplifting! Then we made a pilgrimage through the Calvary, we had a wonderful sight. It is not a very advertised place, so it is even more permeated by spiritual peace, silence, understanding of the Creator.
