A karancskeszi plébánia anyakönyve szerint az 1800-as évek végén a terület neve még Bélavára volt. A helyi hagyomány szerint azért kapta ezt a nevet, mert IV. Béla a muhi csata utáni menekülés közben itt pihent meg. A mai nevét pedig állítólag egy "drótostót " adta a pusztának. Amikor ezen a vidéken járt, az itt lakó cselédek éppen veszekedtek a béreken. Ezt úgy mesélte a "drótostót" - a terület felé mutogatva -, hogy "ott marakogyi emberek". Így maradt rajta a Marakodi név.
