Kis Hobol kereszt - Hobol

We find a beautiful stone cross with the crucified statue of Jesus in Árpád Street in Hobol, with the inscription: "For the glory of God, it was erected by the small village of Hoboli in 1910." Who remembers Little Hobol? We do. In 2017, we visited Árpád Street in Hobol, the former settlement of Kis Hobol, where my grandparents lived until 1927. (My photos were taken in 2017.) Their whole family was a potter. I heard from them many times that there was a house around 16 on the only street and they really liked to live there, they lived in a nice house with a thatched roof that used to be near the stone cross. There was also a small outbuilding with a tiled roof near their slat fence. I read about the history of Kis-Hobol (formerly Kis-Hoboly) that it was founded in 1830 by brick burners and celery settlers. They did not have a church, and their services were held in a school set up in the manor house. In 1910, the village erected a stone cross in the only street of Kis-Hobol, today's Árpád Street. It is evidenced by the placement of a cross depicting the crucified Christ on a memorial plaque placed on the pedestal of the stone cross. In addition to the stone cross, there is also a newer belfry with a bell. The old belfry presumably existed before the stone cross was erected, and its bell now plays the role of a soul bell in the cemetery. It also shows the inscription on the bell caster. Today, the former Kis Hobol street belonging to Hobol, Árpád utca. And the street is much longer, full of nice new houses. The roofed buildings are long gone. Maybe potters don't live here anymore. The memory of Little Hobol may no longer be known to many ....
