The Greek Catholic devotees of the city originally belonged to the neighboring lip parish. Already in 1838, the faithful here told the Bishop of Munkács that they wanted to buy a plot to build a church. In 1854 they renewed their intention to build a temple, and the city promised land to the community. The actual work could not begin until half a century later, in 1888 they began to raise funds. Based on the plans of József Tutkovics, construction began in 1893, and the finished church was consecrated in 1897 by Bishop Gyula Firczák. Because 19-20. By the turn of the 20th century, the number of Greek Catholics in the city had doubled to over 1,100, and the need for an independent parish was raised, which happened in 1914. Independence has given a new impetus to the community. In 1917, an iconostasis and a new canopy altar were ordered from the Rétay and Benedek Artificial Institutes in Budapest, which were consecrated one year later. The church was rebuilt inside and outside in 1921, and in 1937, in preparation for the fortieth anniversary of its dedication, it was rebuilt and solemnly consecrated. The windows were replaced between 1964-66. The church was completely renovated around the turn of the millennium: its interior painting was cleaned, the iconostasis and the canopy main altar were re-gilded, a new sanctuary was added to the latter, and the exterior rebuilt. In the square in front of the church, a series of iconic columns present the most important celebrations of the Church year.

The church is a very wonderfully beautiful place, and Father Ferenc Tamás will do everything for his congregation. His kindness is exemplary. You can expect it even in the most difficult times.
