★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Veszprém 1552. évi eleste után Sümeg püspöki székhellyé lépett elő, ezért szükség volt a püspök és udvara számára új épületek felhúzására, illetve a vár védelmének korszerűsítésére. Az 1553-ban a püspöki székbe ülő Kövessy András elsőként a vár erődítését kezdhette meg. 1554-ben készült el a vár északi bástyája (ágyútornya), amelyre két építési feliratot is helyeztek az építtető püspök és a várkapitány Ormányi Józsa nevével. A bástya legfelső szintje újabb, 17. századi ráépítés.
 After the fall of Veszprém in 1552, Sümeg became the episcopal seat, so it was necessary for the bishop and his court to erect new buildings and to modernize the defense of the castle. András Kövessy, who sat in the episcopal chair in 1553, was the first to start fortifying the castle. The northern bastion (cannon tower) of the castle was completed in 1554, on which two building inscriptions were placed with the names of the building bishop and the castle captain Józsa Ormányi. The top level of the bastion is another 17th century superstructure.
