A Márkus Étterem története

Márkus Ferenc, miután abbahagyta az aktív labdarúgást, vendéglátásba kezdett. Először a Széphalom, majd a Budagyöngye éttermeket üzemeltette, akkor még gebines formában. Az Észak-Budai Vendéglátó Vállalat hanyatlásával a gebines rendszer is befuccsolt, és licitálásra írták ki az üzleteket. Ő kinézte a Fény utcai piaccal szemben lévő sarok-kifőzdét. Végül sikerült elnyernie a licitáláson szerzett lepusztult kis kifőzde üzemeltetését. Lakását eladva vált lehetősége az üzlet felújítására, majd kérvényt nyújtott be az Észak-Buda akkori igazgatóságához: Az üzlet III. osztályról II. osztályra való alakításához. Így vált végül Márkus vendéglővé 1979 tájékán. Később öccsét, Márkus Tibort is maga mellé vette, aki több mint harminc évig felelt az étterem vezetéséért. Akkoriban még a Ganz Villany üzemelt a bolt szomszédságában. Sokan jártak át a munka után meginni egy sört a Márkusba. Volt időszak, hogy hiánycikk volt a Kőbányai sör. A fivérek ezt a gondot úgy oldották meg, hogy együtt eljártak focizni a Sörgyár csapatához, cserébe kapott sört az étterem. A környék fokozatosan átalakult, jelenleg is fejlődik. A két testvér nyugdíjba vonulása után Ferenc lánya és fia vette át a helyüket. Jelenleg ők segítenek apjuknak az étterem üzemeltetésében.

From the outside it looked like a small local place but the inside seating area is well set and neat,it resembles a classic sit down restaurant. The food variety is really good eventhough they didn't have all the items offered in the menu now due to Christmas. Now about the star food. I tried a goulash soup and beef vine reduction with sour salad. The cook on the meat and flavor were amazing and I felt like having Indian food. I accidentally came to this place to check out the local cuisine and I am completely satisfied by the food. The staff are really helpful and gave me some good suggestions as well. I would recommend this place to anyone who visits Budapest. Cheers!

We had deep fried Camembert as a side dish and that was perfect as well. The staff were pleasant but we had a bit of confusion when ordering but their English is much better than my Hungarian. We had a good night out.

The stuff in the restaurant is very friendly, they speak very good English and are very responsive to your needs. The prices of the meal are moderate, comparing to other Budapest restaurants that we visited. But the taste and freshness and allover quality are just superior! Once we ordered, we got the soup in only couple of minutes And main course took another positive 15 minutes. It was Saturday around 2p.m. and the small restaurant was nearly full. Also the portions are so large that my wife could not eat it all. Again, the stuff was quick to pack the rest of our food for take away. We simply liked the place, the service, loved the food! Thats why I give 5 stars, they deserve it! Thank you, Márkus! Great job!

The food was good, the prices cheap in comparaison to other restaurants we've been to in the town. Also, Markus gave us some good advices about where to go. He was very friendly and spoke a very good German, as well as English. Would recommend!
