The statue is interesting and spectacular.

In the Middle Ages, the fairground stood in this place, where in the 13th century Bishop St. Bartholomew built a parish church in honor of the patron saint of healers and tanners. King Andrew received from the monarch the handcuff of St. Bartholomew of Bertalan Brancioni, the reigning high priest, which he placed in solemn conditions in the city church to be built at that time. This building was badly damaged in the late 13th century when palatine Mizse set fire to the entire city, along with its church. Built on the site of the burnt church, the new church was expanded with two aisles, three-aisled in the 15th century. In 1543, the Turks also occupied Pécs. Pasha Gázi Kászim demolished the medieval church of St. Bartholomew in 1543 and built the Jami, which can still be seen today, from its stones. The serpent of the statue refers to Bertalan's healing activity, the cross to apostolic preaching, and his stripped body to martyrdom. The bell stand, handed over in 2004, rises to a height of 13 meters with a hydraulic structure for each anger, three times a day at 07:00, 12:00 and 19:00.
