The current building complex of the Ministry of Justice at 4 Kossuth Square originally consists of two buildings built separately on two adjacent plots. The eclectic-style tenement house designed and built by architect Alfred Wellisch on the plot on Országház Square was completed in 1911. II. During World War II, stone-domed domes on both corners of the Kossuth Square facade and the roof structure were damaged. However, these were not restored to their original condition during the reconstruction, but another floor was erected on the building. The building was nationalized in 1950 and the Ministry of Construction moved here (then its successors operated here until 1990). At that time, the Wellisch House was merged with the building behind it, which was formerly the five-storey pension institution palace of the Hungarian General Coal Mine Limited Liability Company. Direct passage between the buildings was provided by breaking down the firewalls. The building was taken into use in 1990 by the Office of the Prime Minister. As of 2014, it is the central building of the Ministry of Justice. In 2013, within the framework of the Steindl Imre Program, both the roof and the facade contour were restored to their original condition on the street-side sides, ie the built-up floor was also demolished. The mushroom domes of the corner towers, the accentuated young towers and the spine decoration were made of titanium zinc sheet. The two buildings were painted in a similar but different color during the renovation, while the uniform color of the doors and windows expresses the functional unity of the building block.
