Leaving the castle, I headed for the two-towered church gig. This church dedicated to St. Anne owes its existence to Bishop Károly Esterházy of Eger. He did not regret the money — he had plenty of it — he asked for the “cream” of the age to build the temple. It was designed by Jakab Fellner, while the frescoes testify to the genius of “Austrian Tiopelo” Anton Maulbertsch. The church was built from 1774 to 1786 in a refined braid style during the Baroque aftermath. Some details anticipate classicism. Between the two towers, Martyr St. Stephen looks at the space in the company of two cherubim. If the main gate of the church is closed, do not be bitter! To the left is a small door to the impressive church chapel. The frescoes and the main altarpiece tell the story of St. Stephen the martyr. St. Stephen and St. Ladislaus take care of the awkwardness of the main altar on two sides. To the left of the sanctuary opens the Chapel of Mary, where we find a complete skeleton: the remains of Martialis, a martyr who lived in the time of Emperor Diocletian. This was donated by the Pope to Bishop Károly Esterházy. Once here, the enthusiastic believers “surprised” him with a jeweled ornamental Hungarian.
