Dédest és Bántapolcsányt 1950-ben egyesítették, azóta Dédestapolcsány a neve, s mind a két falurészben van templom. A középkori falu az 1254-ben már állott váráról volt ismeretes, sőt 1304-ben Szent Mártonról nevezett egyházát említik, melynek papja is volt. Dédes a XV. században királyi birtok volt és mezővárosi rangot kapott. 1566-ban Hasszán török basa lerombolta a várat, amely többé nem épült fel. A Perényi- és Orlai-családok földesurasága alatt lettek lakói lakói reformátusok. Az 1595-ös összeírás templomáról tudósít, amely nem sokáig állt, mert 1608-ban fatemplomot építettek. Jelenlegi templomát 1800-01-ben építették késő barokk stílusban, a nyugati homlokzat előtti 28 m magas tornyával, Pissl Bálint rimaszombati kőművesmester terve alapján. Az épület keleti vége félköríves záródású. A mennyezet eredetileg díszes és fakazettás volt, de amikor 1930-ban belső berendezését megújították, lebontották a mennyezetet, helyére pedig szürke olajfestékkel mázolt, csillagokkal díszített sík famennyezet került. A régi kazettákból a Miskolci Herman Ottó Múzeum restauráltatott néhányat, közülük emlékeztetőül kettőt a déli bejárat fölé helyeztek a falra. Az északi falon látjuk az I. világháborús hősi emléktáblát. A templomot legutóbb eredeti formájában újították meg, visszahelyezve a restaurált és megújított kazettás mennyezetet. A 97 kg-os (56 cm) harangot a Bp-i Hm készítette, felirata: „Az 1914-18. évi világháború céljaira elvitt harangja helyébe készíttette a dédesi ref. egyház Isten dicsőségének a szolgálatára,1923.”A 75 kg-osat (55 cm) Egerben öntötték, felirata: „Fusa sub Rozalia Jusztel. A Dédesi Reformata N. Ecclesia maga tulajdon költségével öntette MDCCXCVI-ban.”

Dedest and Bántapolcsány were merged in 1950, and since then Dédestapolcsány has been named and there is a church in both parts of the village. The medieval village was known for its castle, which stood in 1254, and is even mentioned in 1304 for its church of St. Martin, which also had a priest. The XV. In the 14th century it was a royal estate and received the rank of a market town. In 1566 the Turkish basa of Hassan destroyed the castle, which was no longer built. During the tenure of the Perényi and Orlai families the inhabitants became the inhabitants of the Reformed Church. Some of the old cassettes were restored by the Herman Otto Museum in Miskolc, two of them placed on the wall above the south entrance as a reminder. On the northern wall we can see the World War I memorial plaque. The church was recently renovated in its original form, reinstating the restored and renewed coffered ceiling.
