Worth the treck north if you're visiting Budapest. There is a museum with artifacts and a large grounds you can explore of the ancient city. They have a mock house to show living quarters. All text is available in English.

I've been coming back to this particular site every year for the past three years and it always seems to be improving. New exhibits a new excavated materials. There's a large section of recovered stones, headstones and other markers. The newer museum building houses several large floor mosaics, other mosaics and finds from smaller sites within the city, and interactive displays. A reconstructed Villa Rustica is also there to view. To do it justice you should budget 1.5 to 2 hours in order to cover the entire excavated area as well as the museum and other outbuildings. At its largest Aquincum would've housed between 50-60,000 people. It was the capital city of Pannonia province during the days of the Roman empire.

Just outside the museum was the perfect play area for anyone traveling with kids! There were quite a few games that were Roman themed to keep any toddler to pre-teen busy! Beyond this is where the fascination of Roman ruins lie. Every detail from the elevated platforms to the arched water ways etc are well preserved.

Unique and wonderful. Strange to see any kind of remains of past civilizations.

Not a lot of English description on the outer exhibits. Still a good place to spend a couple of hours. Entrance tickets not at all expensive.

If you love Roman ruins like I do, then this is a great place. The remains are only several feet high, but I enjoy imagining what could have been.

So much, so well preserved. Not the clearest signage for navigating the places. Friendly and helpful staff at the front desk. Well worth the shlep out of town for.

Its excavated by only a very small part, but its stuning. Sadly its not very well looked after and vandals had their share of fun here, but its still nice to see. You cant leave Budapest without visiting the real ancient "Budapest" - Aquincum
