★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Szombathelynek is volt vára. Nem volt hatalmas és híres-nevezetes erősség, mint mondjuk Eger. De a Római időktől van kőből épült városfala Savariának, majd a középkori városnak is, aminek a falaihoz kapcsolódó kör alakú, 2,2 méter falvastagságú építmény, amit várnak is lehet nevezni. Az 1710-es tűzvészben nagyon megsérült, majd a lebontásuk mellett döntöttek. A helyén felépült székesegyház, a püspöki palota és annak a kertje.
Ebben a romkertben az újkori feltárások ismét a felszínre hozták a korábban eltemetett épületek alapjait. Ezeket látva el lehet játszani a gondolattal, a falaknak mi volt a rendeltetésük, milyen élet lehetett közöttük.......
Szombathely also had a castle. There was no huge and famous-notable fortress like, say, Eger. But since Roman times there is a stone city wall of Savaria, and then of the medieval city, to the walls of which is a circular, 2.2-meter-thick structure, which can also be called a castle. They were badly damaged in the fire of 1710 and then decided to demolish them. The cathedral, the episcopal palace and its garden were built on its site.
In this ruined garden, modern excavations have once again brought to the surface the foundations of previously buried buildings. Seeing these, you can play with the idea of what the walls were for, what life might have been between them .......
