Amazing environment, clean shapes on the inside!

A very nicely renovated Catholic church built on the ruins of an Árpádian church, with a joint Austro-Hungarian collaboration, consecrated in 1992. In the middle of a forest, with beautiful landscaping next to the Austrian border, approached from the village of Rönök.

Truly, carefully maintained place. Because of its sad story, I consider it as a sacral place rather as a tourist attraction, so afterwards. There is parking at the bottom of the hill, so a good hike can be a starting point for example. towards Kitziberg (2.8 Km.)

A hidden church with an adventurous story. It is good that it has survived to posterity.

There has been a church in this place for 800 years. Unfortunately, on the last Sunday of 1898, a storm so “dismantled” it that it had to be destroyed. “The parish priest was just beginning his holy speech when pieces of plaster and bricks began to fall, larger pieces fell to some believers, and minor injuries occurred. Terrified believers rushed out of the temple for this and nine were injured in the crowd. ” The foundation stone of the new church was laid on November 9, 1902 (Prime Minister Kálmán Széll also intervened.) The church is 35 meters long, 15 meters wide, and its cross rises to a height of 37 meters. Masses were held here until December 9, 1951. At that time, the parish priest János Kőmíves had to flee (After Hide and Seek: Flee or die!). Then he couldn't put his believer's foot in here. The church tower was an observation post for border guards. In 1971, they wanted to demolish it. The County Council has already requested offers for demolition. Thanks to a well-functioning socialist industry, there was no spare capacity. Then on September 20, 1992, the eclectic-neo-Gothic “jewelry box” was rededicated. The environment is exemplary. There are benches here. fountain, information boards. Monument to the 1100th anniversary of the conquest of the 56th heroes. Old, sad, worn stone cemetery. There was only one thing I didn’t like about the conquest monument: its marble slab broken into a ripite. If a Hungarian did this, he is mentally ill, if he is an Austrian chauvinist. Searching the internet, I found a frustrating “title” that this beautiful church got: the most desecrated church in Hungary.
