Őriszentpéteri Szent Péter apostol templom

Accessibility: Őriszentpéter, Templomszer 17. Opening hours: between April 1 and November 3 for a donation ticket that can be visited between 10:00 and 16:00 (adult: HUF 400 / person, student: HUF 200 / person) the Romanesque church of St. Peter. The building, erected in the 1200s, was converted into a fortress around 1550 with the approach of Turkish danger, surrounded by bastions, ramparts and ditches. The landlords of the area tried to prevent the looting of Turkish troops by an army stationed in fortified mansions and forts. Dozens of soldiers were also stationed in the fortress church of Őriszentpéter, but the siege of 1664 could not be defended and the walls of the fortress were demolished by the Turks, and the church no longer regained its military significance. Its former military role is alluded to only by the deep ramparts in the churchyard. The rebuilt single-nave church, whose tower was integrated with the western façade, dates from the 17th century. it became the property of the Protestants from the beginning of the 16th century, and it was not until 1732 that it became the property of the Catholics again. Worth a visit!

The first stop of the discovery of Őrség. Rich historical setting, tidy medium, parish and cemetery. Parking is solved, it is worth preparing for increased interest. Recommended.
