Saint Roch Cemetery Chapel, Baja - Baja

Nice church and cemetery with tomb of Lazarus Mészáros.

On the day of St. Roch, on August 16, 1795, the construction of the imposing chapel was completed, and on this day it was blessed by Count István Ránics, represented by Archbishop László Kollonich, in the magnificent ceremony of Baja. It still stands on the site of the old chapel of the cemetery on the axis of Batthyány Street (formerly Gyász Street) in honor of St. Roch. The main altar picture of the Pesticides saints was painted by Mathias Hanisch in 1802. There are memorial plaques and gravestones on the exterior walls of the chapel. Not only are these epitaphs, but most of them have a tomb next to the outer wall or crypt of the chapel. In the past, the nobility and the richer citizens were buried here. also members of the Auer, Emperor, Harlikovich, Pilassanovich families. The final resting place, marked with a marble slab, was also born on March 15, 1991, by the town's renowned military minister, the first independent Hungarian government minister of war. The chapel's tower chapel shows the date of construction, below it is an hour, and its walls are yellowish and white. The roof is covered with copper plate.
