Semsey Castle Balmazújváros "The eye - catching block of Semsey Castle in Balmazújváros, built in a classicist style, is a fresh spot in the center of the already attractive small town, just a few steps from the spa. The XVIII-XIX. Built at the turn of the 18th century, the mansion, or rather a rural mansion, gained its present late classicist style during the reconstruction around 1840 and was the residence of the Semsey family until the 1860s, then uninhabited until the communist reign, but nicely maintained. In the years that followed, many of his companions were dismantled, their equipment disintegrated, and its role deteriorated rapidly, in a way unworthy of its original function, until it was restored in a dignified manner, according to the name of András Andor Semsey, owner of the Semsey family. Semsey Andor was a strong supporter of culture and science. The birdhouse of the Pest Zoo and the building of the National Institute of Geology were built from his donation. Below the rectangular building, unfortunately, there is a huge, vaulted cellar system that is currently unavailable. Unfortunately, there is a grocery store in the building of the former riding school in the park of the castle. The permanent exhibition in the building showcases the history of the city, its everyday life, its most characteristic crafts and its famous natives, with, of course, the Semsey family at its center. But we can also read some interesting data about Imre Soós (Ludas Matyi, Körhinta), an actor who ended tragically at a young age. The separate interior of the upstairs commemorates the work of Péter Veres, a native of the city who made his debut as a folk writer but rose to ministry in the emergency. The exhibition of Imre Szeifert, a humanities painter born in Debrecen but confessing to Balmazújváros, can also be seen as a temporary exhibition. On the wall of the building, a tiny plaque commemorates another famous native of the small town, Mátyás Dely, who is only known by the common language as a steppe veterinarian. Mátyás Dely enjoyed popularity as a young doctor and was revered at the end of his life. He healed the goods of the poor for free, but in return he expected, "Tell me a My Father!" In connection with his veterinary activities, Emperor Franz Joseph I awarded him a gold cross with a crown, and the Budapest Veterinary College issued him a jubilee certificate for the first time in the history of the institution. All in all, even an experienced traveler will gain new knowledge and experience when visiting the castle and the exhibitions, thanks to the enthusiastic staff of the museum, so whoever is visiting this lovely little town is well advised to visit.
