A belső vár egyben a sümegi vár legrégibb része. Itt található az Öregtorony, a Kápolna, a Börtön és a Várkút is. A külső várból ma egy gyalogos kapun lehet ide bejutni. Az eredeti kapu boltíve az udvar felől is látható, de a 16. század környékén befalazták. A Kápolna ebben a két oldalról befalazott kapuszorosban került kialakításra. Mögötte az alsó udvar fogad a várkúttal. Jobb oldalon van egy kis kőlépcső, majd egy csigalépcső, ezeken lehet feljutni a felső udvarra. A lőréseken át nagyszerű kilátás nyílik nyugatra a városra, illetve a dél és kelet felé a környező vidékre. A felső udvarról lehet bejutni az Öregtoronyba, ahol több terem korhű berendezéssel, fegyverekkel várja a látogatókat. Az Öregtorony keleti oldalán vezet le egy falépcső a Várbörtönhöz, ahol válogatott kínzási életképeket rendeztek be.

The inner castle is also the oldest part of the Sümeg castle. The Old Tower, the Chapel, the Prison and the Castle Well are also located here. You can get here today from the outer castle through a pedestrian gate. The arch of the original gate can also be seen from the courtyard, but was walled in around the 16th century. The Chapel was built in this walled gatehouse on both sides. Behind it is the lower courtyard with the castle fountain. To the right is a small stone staircase and then a spiral staircase, on which you can ascend the upper courtyard. The portholes offer great views of the city to the west and the surrounding countryside to the south and east. From the upper courtyard you can enter the Old Tower, where several rooms await visitors with period equipment and weapons. On the east side of the Old Tower, a wooden staircase leads down to the Castle Prison, where assorted images of torture life have been arranged.
