Woow, must do if you are visiting Budapest but DO NOT follow any guide books that suggest linking thus with the chair lift, the path from the middle station to the chairlift is only fir seasoned Hill walkers.

This will satisfy the railway anorak in you. Fascinating to see this old propulsion mechanism in action. Beautiful scenic countryside to be seen at the end of the line. If you have a Budapest card this is included just like other public transport in the Budapest area.

Europe's 3rd Cog-Wheel Railway, the tramline 60. First Cog-Wheel Railway of continental europe was built in Switzerland in 1871, after its great success architectures and engineers started to brain storm to increase income of this new invention, they decided to built next Cog Wheely to Austria's capital, Vienna. Guess where was the next location? Yes, it was Budapest! In 1873 the construction started and was completed on June 21, 1874, Hungary’s first special railway was opened for the public. It was 2883 metres long with steam locomotives. First modernization took place in 1929 but after the WW2, railway was almost had to built entirely because of the destruction. Weird as they come, this tram climbs up incredible gradients uphill and is held in place by a cogwheel. Nice views, especially in winter. Line no. 60, this is an integral part of the BKK so general passes can be used, or normal tickets. Free for Budapest card users. The children's train can be reached by taking this tram to the last station, Széchenyi-hegy. As of March 9th, 2020, there are changes in public transportation, service may be altered or unavailable. It's better to check before you go.

This is definitely one of the highlights of Budapest. If you plan to visit Normafa, I advise you taking this cog-wheel railway instead of the regular buses. The panorama is spectacular, especially in the winter. Don't miss it!

The cogwheel train is quite a unique experience if you want to visit the hillside area. You can use your public transport tickets, no extra money needed. It has a nostalgic feeling, just like you go about 30 years back in time. Tips: - In winter time, go if there is snow otherwise the route has quite a lot of rubbish around, people don't care their home it seems. There are some abandoned houses too, not the best looking. - Beautiful in summer time, fresh air and good to be away from the buzzing city - Great for a day out

Fantastic experience using this wonderful cogwheel train to visit Budapest mountain. You will feel like step back in time with the old travelling style. The train is beautiful, clean and comfortable. In the winter you will be amazed with the scene covered in white snow. It looks like getting lost in a fairy land. Magical view and so peaceful. At the end of cogwheel train line, you can continue discover the mountain with children train which operates by children.

(ENG below.) HUN: Abszolút kedvenc! Egy cseppet sem vesztett régi fényéből, gyermekkorom óta elvarázsol. ENG: A real old times railway taking you on a great trip up to the mountains where Budapest's only narrow gauge railway is located. It shows you a bit of the past of Budapest, as it has only changed a little. Very well maintained and clean. A real family activity, available with standard BKK tickets. Time well spent.
