★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A Dessewffy utcai zsinagógát egy lóistállóból alakították ki 1870-ben. Ez Budapest legrégebbi folyamatosan működő orthodox imahelye. Eleinte a „vörös sipkások” zsinagógájának nevezték, mert elsősorban fuvarosok, hordárok imádkoztak itt, akik a Nyugati pályaudvar közelsége miatt jártak ide. A piros fejfedőjük miatt a fuvarosokat hívták „vörös sipkásoknak”.
The Dessewffy Street Synagogue was developed from a horse stable in 1870. It is the oldest continuously operating orthodox prayer site in Budapest. At first it was called the "red-skinned" synagogue, because it was mainly the carriages and porters who prayed here because of the proximity of the Western Railway Station. Because of their red headgear, the riders were called "red capes."
