Felsődörgicse church

Balatonfelvidék always holds surprises. We visited Dörgics a few days ago. We visited three ruined churches in the Árpádian period. Wonderful experience. Beautiful memories of the history of our country. It is instructive and a trip is also a great experience. Nice people.

It is worth seeing all 3 church ruins: parking at the cemetery, from there the Church of the Blessed Virgin (signpost Mária út, up into the woods) 1 minute, then back to the signpost Maria-út. Following the sign, we reach the ruins of Felsődörgicse in about 15 minutes, and from there another 15 minutes on foot along the main road to the ruins of Kisdörgicse, which is marked by a sign next to the road. The church ruin is in the middle of a sage field, very cozy.

Out of the three church ruins of Dörgicse, we were able to include a visit to Upper Dörgicse. I liked the ruin of the church, which evokes the suggestion of the past. Beside him, the sculptor István Nagy (1920-2017), who lived and worked at the Szolnok Artists' Colony in Dörgicse since 1977 and before that in 1957-1977. (2001). The sculptor, who lives nearby, rests in a cemetery next to the ruined church.

The oldest church in the village, dedicated to St. Peter, is one of the most interesting church buildings in Hungary, dating from this age. It is an ensemble that is actually two churches - an XI. century (with a 12th century suffix) and a 13th century century - was created by building side by side. The horseshoe-shaped apse of the former (northern) part of the church, which rests on the foundations of a Roman building, is also a curiosity. It may have been built shortly after the conquest (for the Bogány-Radvány clan), so in its "original form" it was certainly the first Christian church in the area. The XIII. In the 16th century it became necessary to expand the church. This was solved in a unique way by adding three walls. A door was broken into the wall of the old church, the old door was walled in. At the end of the church is a cross-shaped window opening. It was carved from two stones - one outside and one inside. There are only two such solutions in the world - one here in Dörgiche and the other in France. If we go into the boat, we can take a photo of seeing the cross of the new church through this cross-shaped window. The ruin has been restored, unlike many nearby ruined churches, it is in excellent condition, it seems to be taken care of by the people of Dörgicse. On the western side, the sculpture of the sculptor István Nagy, who depicts a full-conquered Hungarian, looks at the surroundings and at the same time the home of the Pátzay disciple.
