Nice example how Hungarians can sell their traditions.

One of the places with the lowest light pollution in Hungary, therefore it is highly recommended for stargazing or astrophotography.

Hortobágy (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈhortobaːɟ]) is an 800 km2 national park in eastern Hungary, rich with folklore and cultural history. The park, a part of the Alföld (Great Plain), was designated as a national park in 1973 (the first in Hungary), and elected among the World Heritage sites in 1999. The Hortobágy is Hungary's largest protected area, and the largest semi-natural grassland in Europe

Great place to visit with the family specially to try and interest the kids in wildlife (birds) and plants. We took a small boat to the marsh area - they have built a small island which is perfect for sightseeing. There's a guide once you arrive by boat which explains everything about the little marsh area/island. There are guides that speak English I'd your Hungarian isn't perfect as well as signs/ posters that have Hungarian and English information about the area. There are different paths that take you to different huts - some of them have helpers/guide that explain what type of birds you can see. We even signed a book at the end with a lovely message :) A fun day out!

Wonderfull place to visit in Hungary. Such a lot of wide open space wit fantastic wildlife and a great sense of space. Watching the horsemen working with the horses, including standing on the backs of two at a time, is pretty spectacular and world famous. I had a little ride on just the one and I was sitting down, not standing on it's back! But i still felt pretty spectacular and got some photos to prove it! I recommend a visit.
